Secret Service took a suspect into custody after finding and investigating a suspicious package near the White House Tuesday.

The man was outside the fence by the White House when he told officers he had a bomb in the bag. Officers apprehended him and investigated the bag at the scene, blocking off access to the White House.

The Secret Service tweeted its instituted road closures and moved visitors to a “safe distance.” East Wing tours were also suspended, but other White House events continued as usual.

The surrounding streets were reopened around 11:40 AM.
