WASHINGTON – On Monday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on a Texas law that effectively bans abortion after six weeks. This is the first of two major abortion cases on the Court’s docket this term.

This case was focused on the enforcement mechanism in Texas SB8 that allows private citizens to sue anyone who aids or abets an abortion after six weeks more so than the provision on abortion. However, it still has major implications for abortion rights.

Outside the Court, advocates from both sides of the controversial issue gathered to show either their support or disapproval of Texas SB8. It’s unclear when the Court will decide this case, but both sides of the longstanding battle will be watching when they do.
