WASHINGTON — Since 2001, several states have outlawed discrimination against transgender persons or broadened their access to public facilities. Washington D.C. has ordered businesses that use single stall restrooms to remove gender designations from the doors. The District is the first jurisdiction in the nation to have such inclusive legislation. This legislation will not only make Washington D.C. a more “trans-friendly” place, it will also serve the handicapped, families with young children or anyone who feels uncomfortable in public bathroom settings.
