WASHINGTON — The National Building Museum is full of food cans this week, part of an innovative project to show that art can be made from anything.
Twenty-four architecture and design teams spent six hours building sculptures with the cans as part of the annual Canstruction competition last weekend.
“We have done it for 17 years. It is a great way for artists to show off their creativity. And in the end, it will do a lot of good for hungry families in the Washington region,” said Mary Fitch, executive vice president at the Washington Architectural Foundation.
The 6,500 food cans will be donated to the Capital Area Food Bank after the exhibition closes.
The exhibition is free to the public and will last through Nov 30, when the winning sculptures will be announced. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite sculptures.
