WASHINGTON — The annual Minnesota legislator “Hotdish Off” is in it’s sixth year and the competition continues to increase.
If you don’t know what hotdish is, you probably aren’t alone. It’s a casserole-like dish that is popular in Minnesota. A hot dish usually contains a meat, potato or starch, vegetables and sometimes soup.
Minnesota Senator Al Franken started the competition as a way to bring bipartisanship to the state’s delegation. Each legislator brings a hotdish to the event and three people, including food critics and restaurant owners, taste test the food without knowing who made it and then choose the winner based off of taste, creativity and originality.
