The relationship between the African-American community and police was one issue mentioned on Capitol Hill at the Lighting the Way National Speak Out on Gun Violence.

“I didn’t get to pick to be a black person in America,” said Deondre Moore, an activist. “You choose to put on that blue uniform, and it’s important to bring to the light that black lives do matter. Because it seems like for so many years, that still to this day in 2016, that our lives don’t matter as much.”

Activists, community organizers and members of the Congressional Black Caucus members spoke about the current racial climate in America.
