WASHINGTON — Congress needs to pass an infrastructure package to improve America’s waterways and bridges, but deregulation also is needed to speed the process of repairing and building infrastructure, Indiana Republican Sen. Todd Young said Tuesday.

Young, speaking at a growth conference hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said he notices the bureaucratic delays on projects in Indiana.

“It takes about 10 years, 20 years, to get the bridges approved. It’s absolutely ridiculous,” he said.

Deregulation is the most efficient way to maximize federal dollars, Young said.
