WASHINGTON-The Textile Musuem in Northwest D.C. debuts a new exhibit Friday. “Art by the Yard: Women Design Mid-Century Britain” features textiles from the 1950s to 1970s.

The exhibit showcases the designs of Lucienne Day, Jacqueline Groag and Marian Mahler. They were known as pioneers bringing a colorful and playful aesthetic to the mid-century interior design  industry.

The Textile Museum Curator Lee Talbot says the bold designs seen in the exhibit are very timely.

“We think this a great Spring/Summer exhibition. It’s optimistic, it’s happy, it’s colorful and we think it really speaks to our audience right now,” he said.

The exhibit runs through Sept. 12. It’s open to the public and admission is free.
