WASHINGTON – The Latino community got a little boost from the stars Tuesday, when “Desperate Housewives” actress Eva Longoria-Parker and music producer Emilio Estefan spoke on Capitol Hill to celebrate the creation of the National Museum of the American Latino Commission.
The commission is required to study the possibility of building a national museum in Washington centered around the art, culture and history of the U.S. Latino community. Under legislation signed by former President George W. Bush last year, the group must submit a report to Congress within two years outlining a plan for the museum. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said he’s asked the commission to complete the task even sooner, in under a year.
Both Longoria-Parker and Estefan have been appointed to the 23-member commission.
