Twenty-somethings make career connections with networking groups.(Kristin Maiorano/MNS)

WASHINGTON –Think twice the next time you see two twenty-somethings chatting at a bar; he may not be looking for a date, but rather looking for a job. Many young people  say they’re turning to networking  to help find jobs in the D.C. political scene.

“I just think it’s great because we all have so much energy and we need to be able to channel that and to focus that in a productive way,” said Faith Pippin, a member of the networking group Generation Obama.

The group isn’t so much pro-Obama  as a place that tries to capture the essence of the president’s campaign, the youthful energy of last year’s political race.

And they’re not alone.

Type “D.C. networking” into a Facebook search and you’ll find hundreds of groups, some with hundreds of members, all looking to connect. It’s a strategy many young people say has produced some valuable contacts.
