When Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan, some Pakistani-Americans in Washington, D.C., expressed disappointment and even embarrassment that he was found in their homeland. The director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council in Washington, D.C., Haris Tarin, said that overall, the Muslim community feels a sense of relief that finally justice has been served. “Now how can we pick up the pieces and move beyond a post Osama bin Laden, post extremist ideology world so that we can ensure that the public knows who we are as a community, what we stand for, what our beliefs are, and what is our narrative. We are part of the American experience,” Tarin said.
