WASHINGTON- Dr. Jacques Bailly, official pronouncer for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, explains its longstanding value for spellers everywhere. The 1980 Spelling Bee champion said that he is very satisfied with the changes Scripps has made over the years. This year, the Bee is adding a rigorous vocabulary test, which will test spellers on the meaning of the words they spell. Bailly said he’s thrilled with the new test and excited for this year’s Spelling Bee.
