Jason McCarthy, 34, attended graduate school at Georgetown University for business after being deployed to Iraq. Returning to civilian life was difficult for him because his classmates did not understand the experiences he underwent overseas. This disconnect between civilian life and the military inspired him to start “War Stories and Free Beer” in order to spark the conversation and educate the public on what these troops were doing during service. These stories are meant to be shared and what better way to get people to listen then by offering them free beer, McCarthy said.
