Low rank military moms showered with gifts from Medill Washington on Vimeo.

WASHINGTON– More than 100 new and expecting military moms were showered with gifts Tuesday during the “Star Spangled Babies” shower at the Hilton Hotel in Springfield, Va.

The shower was held for the families of low-to mid-rank service members, who typically earn $18,000 to $28,000.

“Just the cost of diapers alone is about $72 a month, so it’s a delicate balancing act or families who are working their way up the ranks,” said Operation Homefront Community Outreach Leader Cyndi Lucas.

Big ticket items totaling more than $100 dollars were doled out to each expectant and new mother.
