WASHINGTON — Over the past decade, biking has grown to a method of transportation used daily by 4 percent of the nation’s population. Increased bike presence on the roads forces motorists and pedestrians to share the streets with their two-wheeled friends. Bike lanes make it safer and easier for bike travel.
However, conflict arises when drivers infringe on bike lanes to park, unload, or use as a holding area with little to no consequence. It raises the question: how will cyclists maintain safety as more cities adopt bike ride share programs, increasing the number of bicyclists on the road?
