WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Agriculture kicks off the sixth annual Feds Feeds Families event, where federal employees donate various food items including canned goods and fresh produce to food banks around the country. The program helps solve a deficiency in food banks supply that happens during the summer months when donations are less likely to come in. The Capital Area Food Bank, the D.C.-based food bank that receives 85 percent of the donations, says the program is crucial to making sure school-age kids get the food they need during a time when they can’t access free school lunches.
