WASHINGTON – Last week, farmers markets in the District rolled out a new program that offers $10 incentives to low-income shoppers. The city-funded program, called Produce Plus, offers the incentive to residents who receive a number of federal benefits, from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Medicaid. It will run until this fall – or until the $200,000 funding runs out.
