WASHINGTON — The chant, “not another nickel, not another dime — no more money for el-Sisi’s crimes,” echoed from Capitol Hill Wednesday.

About 25 members of the Egyptian Americans for Democracy and Human Rights and the liberal activist group, CODEPINK, joined forces in protest calling for an end to violence in Egypt and an end to the United States aid.

This protest marks the one-year anniversary of General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi seizing power from Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi. El-Sisi was elected president in June.

“We’re telling the whole world it’s a coup and we will stand against it,” said Semah Elhennawy of the Egyptian Americans for Democracy and Human Rights group. “We’re asking the Americans to support the value of this country.”

The groups said they planned to meet with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to discuss calling off military assistance to Egypt because of the violence occurring there.
