Beginning as early as December, job applications in D.C. might no longer contain questions about applicants’ criminal history. Earlier this month, the D.C. council unanimously voted to “ban the box” that asks potential employees to disclose prior convictions. Council members said the bill is aimed at reducing D.C.’s high recidivism rate and helping ex-offenders better reintegrate into society. The bill now heads to the mayor’s office and then Congress for review. It could take effect as early as December.
