U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, hosted a session Monday during the first ever U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit to talk about climate change, food security, and resilience and the challenges that come with them in vulnerable countries.

“You can’t build a peaceful world on empty stomachs and human misery. Pretty simple,” Kerry said.

The summit, which wrapped up Wednesday, aimed to push development in dozens of African nations by strengthening U.S. ties. During this particular session, the announcement of a $100 million global resiliency partnership to make African countries stronger with initial investments by the Rockefeller Foundation and USAID.
