WASHINGTON — “Operation Mummy’s Curse.” It’s not an Indiana Jones movie, it’s an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to return stolen artifacts to their country of origin. On Wednesday, the agency repatriated dozens of antiques – including an ancient sarcophagus found in a Brooklyn garage – to the government of Egypt in an exchange at the National Geographic Society in Washington. Since 2007, ICE has returned more than 80 items with a total worth of nearly $3 million to Egypt. At the exchange, the Egyptian ambassador requested an even greater international effort to protect cultural heritage from further harm by terrorists.
