WASHINGTON — The pope held a midday prayer service Wednesday at the Cathedral of St. Mathew the Apostle attended by hundreds of bishops and other members of the Catholic church attended. Crowds swarmed the sidewalks surrounding the church in hopes of getting a chance to wave to him as he came and went in a black Fiat. This is the same church where John F. Kennedy’s funeral took place in 1963.
