WASHINGTON — Pope Francis’ United States tour showcased a papal parade near the White House on Wednesday. Thousands of supporters and protesters lined the neighboring streets for their chance to witness history.

Clicks could be heard and flashes seen, even in broad daylight, as the pope rode by in his patented Popemobile. Smiling, waving and giving a thumbs up gesture to interested onlookers, the procession lasted roughly 30 minutes.
