Chasity Hale of the Miami Arts Charter School has been named one of the nation’s poetry ambassadors.

On Thursday, first lady Michelle Obama greeted Chasity and four other students and their families in an event at the White House. The National Poets Program, launched by the Obamas’  several years ago, selects student ambassadors annually for a program that aims to promote art education in schools.

Students serve as literary ambassadors in  their communities and also promote literature and reading.

This year’s winners will host events and workshops in their communities. Michelle Obama urged the young poets to make a difference in their peer’s lives through their writing.
