WASHINGTON – Steelworkers from across the country rallied at the nation’s capitol to stop President Obama’s proposed trade plan, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
More than 700 members of the United Steelworkers (USW) union met with their local legislators Wednesday to ask them to put an end to the TPP. The free trade agreement involves the United States and 11 other countries.
The USW union said the steel industry has seen more than 13,000 layoffs since 2015 because of unfair trade and illegally imported steel from China.
The steelworkers delivered some of the 260,000 postcard petitions collected by USW members calling on Congress to oppose the TPP.
