WASHINGTON — Democratic and Republican student groups in a recent debate at George Washington University, argued about healthcare and welfare. While the College Democrats and College Republicans disagreed on a variety of issues, it seemed that many of them could agree on one thing – anyone but Donald Trump in the presidential race.

TJ Clark, a member of the College Democrats, hopes that the Republicans realize that Trump receiving the nomination would be a mistake.

“I really hope that they don’t make the extreme embarrassing mistake to vote for Donald Trump because that’s something they’ll have to own up to years later,” said Clark.

Shayda Sales, a George Washington University freshman, feels the tensions are high because of the personal aspect of the race conversation.

“I think race is a really sensitive and personal issue that has a lot of different layers with it,” Sales said. “I think the reason why it gets people so worked up is because it has that extremely personal aspect to it, where you always feel like you’re attacking an individual even if someone is trying to talk about a situation.”

A Harvard IOP poll says that Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders is currently most popular pick among young voters ages 18 to 29-years-old.
