WASHINGTON — Joining Forces launched in 2011 due to the the high unemployment rate of veterans. Since the initiative began more than 1.2 million veterans and spouses have been hired or trained.

Last week First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden announced that veteran unemploament rate is now lower than the national average.

In addition to nearly 50 companies pledging to hire more than 110,000 veterans and military spouses within the next five years.

Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, spoke about the company’s pledge to hire 25,000 veterans and spouses.

Pledging companies vary from small start-ups to large manufacturers such as: BAE Systems, The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin Corportation, Dell Inc., First Data, RBR Technologies and more.
