WASHINGTON- House Speaker Paul Ryan Wednesday stopped short of saying that names of congressmen accused of sexual harassment who paid their accusers for silence would be released, saying a review of the entire process of settlements paid to the must be conducted.
Ryan said the Republicans don’t want to make a “one-off decision” without “a comprehensive review of the entire situation” of sexual harassment.
The House is currently reviewing the closed accusations against Rep. John Conyers that resulted in government funds being paid to a former staffer.
On Sunday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on “Meet the Press” did not call for the resignation of Conyers, saying that she expects him to “do the right thing.”
That sentiment was echoed by House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley who said, “calling for a resignation does not actually create the resignation, we have a process in place and we’re calling for an expedited process.”
The House will vote on a bill that would require yearly sexual harassment training for Housecongress members and their staffers, including interns.
