WASHINGTON–On Jan. 8, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it will be terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for an estimated 200,000 Salvadorans. TPS was issued to Salvadorans after back to back earthquakes in 2001 caused widespread damage in El Salvador. Salvadoran TPS recipients will be required to leave the United States by Sept. 9, 2019.
