The Great American Outdoors Act, which will fund repairs and updates in national parks and other public lands, passed the U.S. House Wednesday and awaits President Trump’s signature.

The National Park Service and other public land agencies will receive up to $1.9 billion each year for the next five fiscal years. The money will be used to modernize campgrounds, marinas, visitors’ centers, and trails.

Northern Indiana Representative Jackie Walorski, R-District 2, co-sponsored the bill and described its passage as good news for her district.

Refining the parks “…absolutely kicks back into our district here in Northern Indiana, spurring growth so that our jobs stay steady in Northern Indiana here in those industries and people can continue to enjoy what so many people have which is boating and RV-ing across this country,” said Rep. Walorski.

Indiana’s Elkhart County is often referred to as the “RV Capitol of the World”, with over 85% of the nation’s RVs being produced in the region, according to Rep. Walorski.

Chris Bornemann, Director of Government Affairs for the RV Industry Association agreed that the bill’s passage will benefit the RV industry. “This bill will undoubtedly create a better RV consumer experience which in turn will continue to support a robust RV manufacturing industry that supports over 125,000 jobs in Indiana alone,” said Bornemann.
