See new technologies in plastic surgery Christina Lee/MNS
WASHINGTON – Several cosmetic surgery companies demonstrated that tough economic conditions haven’t held them back, debuting a variety of technological advancements at the annual American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons conference, held in National Harbor, Md. April 23 to 25.
Plastic surgeons said they felt the recession in different ways—Dr. Steven R. Cohen said his San Diego office experienced an increase in surgeries and a decline in non-invasive treatments, like Botox.
“People were making more value decisions. I think they were saying I know a facelift is a proven technique that’s tried and true and choosing that over fillers and lasers,” said Dr. Cohen of the activity in his office over the past two years.
First-time conference attendee Dr. Steven Dayan said his Chicago office saw a jump in patients looking for lower priced procedures with less down-time and quicker results so they could stay competitive in the job market.
Both doctors said their businesses held steady through the downturn, seeing patients spend discretionary income in different ways but not closing their wallets.
