WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama made two lucky turkeys thankful Wednesday, pardoning them from a destiny on the dinner table.

“The turkey’s name is Liberty. And along with his understudy, named Peace, he has the distinction of being the luckiest bird on the face of the Earth. Right now, he’s also probably the most confused,” Obama joked in a ceremony at the White House.

Liberty and Peace were chosen from 30 turkeys eligible for a pardon. Students at Willmar High School in Minnesota raised them. Both turkeys retired to Mount Vernon, the historic home of George Washington.
