WASHINGTON — Postal Service carrier Dennis Devonish knows first-hand what it’s like to be attacked by a dog — and has the scar on his elbow to prove it.

Nearly 5,600 employees of the Postal Service were attacked by dogs last year. Washington ranks 23 in the number of dog attacks in the nation. Los Angeles and San Diego top the list. The Postal Service is working to raise awareness and prevent future dog attacks during National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which ends on Friday.
