Congress questions wildlife refuge agency seeking more land

Congress says there are 12,000 maintenance and operations backlog projects in the National Wildlife Refuge System, a quarter of which are classified as “mission critical.” Though the Fish and Wildlife Service say land acquisition is the best way to protect natural resources, a House Natural Resources subcommittee is asking how the U.S. can afford buy more land when there’s already such a massive backlog.
